Spiritual successors to the Sakura rims

The Sakura rims by Hayashi racing have been idolized by many car enthusiasts because of their unique design. These rims have been discontinued for quite some time and the tuner scene has yet to see anything similar for a long time. While reading up on JDMST, I found out that a company called R Pride has made a new rims inspired by the legendary Sakura rims. Check out their wheel line here.

Hella Suck: Shots fired

If you haven’t heard, Derek Kreindler a Toronto Native has voiced his opinion on the “Hella Flush” movement: read it here. Seriously, it is an insightful read on the popular trend. Soon after MotorMavens posted the article, all hell broke loose.

Derek approaches the trend from a “form vs function” point of view and makes valid points, these low ride heights make the vehicle difficult to drive. Living in Edmonton (Where?) I could not imagine driving anywhere with these lowered cars. If you have been following the scene though, the form vs function argument has taken place for years and it will never end.

I don’t see anything wrong with the Hella Flush idea, heck I think that is the great thing about modifying cars: customizing it to your liking. I gotta agree with Derek though, tucking tires and lowering ride heights make cars look great but only in moderation. It’s only when people take it to the extremes that it starts to look silly and the car’s integrity starts to be a major concern.

The sad thing is though, are the comments left on SpeedSportLife. It only solidifies my thoughts on how badly segregated (and sometimes immature) the car community is. I think too much circle jerking is going on; When a group says anything about the other group, it is almost always met with hostility. Sometimes these comments between these niches are funny but can also be down right ignorant. Seriously, it’s your car, do what you want to it.

Visiting old friends

Today I dropped by Garage Works to catch up with the guys and practice my amazing photography skills on some of the cars there, luckily there were some good cars in the back. If I didn’t work at Garage Works, I wouldn’t have imagined that these cars would be in Edmonton.

I’m surprised it took me this long to purchase one of these, but lately I have been considering picking up an entry level DSLR for my business. After several failed attempts at meeting people on Kijiji (2 weeks worth) I decided to stop by a local store to pick up a Nikon D3000, hopefully this purchase will help me provide some original content for you guys.

The “cost is no object” roadster

It’s not often that we see cars built like this, especially ones where you hear “cost is no object”. The team at Kirkham Motorsports were told exactly that when Larry Ellison (CEO of Oracle) approached them to build the ultimate roadster. This car built is different though, the frame was machined from billet aluminum while the body panels were hand crafted using traditional methods. The body is based on the AC Cobra and packs a 7.9L engine. Check out site here to view the extensive build.

Sick Subaru GC8 Impreza in Modified

If any of you have taken a look at the current issue of Modified I’m sure you’ve seen this clean GC8 Impreza, if not you better check it out. GC8 Impreza’s aren’t very common, yet alone a tastefully modded one. If you’ve read up about the history of the GC8 you will know it is a bit different then the current Impreza.

Alexander McQueen found dead today

I was contemplating whether or not to make a post about McQueen’s death today, partly because I doubt most people reading this blog follow avant garde fashion but I felt that it would be a good opportunity to show some of his work in light of this incredible loss to the fashion world. JNC’s Vintage Barrels Tee

Visiting the new Art Gallery of Alberta

On sunday me and my girlfriend decided to take a look at the newly renovated Art Gallery of Alberta (AGA). At first I thought it looked like a giant tape worm attacking a building but after glaring at the building for a couple of hours, I began to appreciate it. If you have ever been to Edmonton (or deadmonton as I like to refer it as), you’ll notice how boring the buildings/landscape look. The AGA is very different and adds an interesting look to the downtown area.

Secondly, based on stereotypes about art galleries I just assumed that it was a collection of old photos, paintings, and sculptures which, for the most part was, however there was one exhibition, “Murder of the Crows”, which really stood out. I don’t wanna give away any spoilers but its definitely something worth going too if your bored on the weekend with nothing to do.

Overall I enjoyed my stay at the AGA and I’m looking forward to new exhibitions in the future. If your live in/visiting Edmonton, I highly suggest you check it out!
