Low Life – VIP Tuning Culture

VIP tuning culture originated from Japan and has slowly made its way to North America. While not nearly as popular as the JDM craze, it definitely has its fans. While only few can pull off the super slammed stance, many enthusiasts are envious of their aggressive looks. Luke from Maiham Media examines why people love VIP styled cars.

Homemade Transformer Toy

Leave it up to the Japanese to create a homemade Transformer that actually transforms! Obviously no small feat, the robot is able to drive, transform, walk and dance. What’s more surprising is that the creator wasn’t able to upload a high quality version than 360p…

Tokyo Auto Salon 2012 by Luke Huxham for eGarage

Tokyo Auto Salon is easily one of the biggest and baddest car shows in the world. Car culture encompasses a lot of different styles but Tokyo Auto Salon is one of the few shows left that has everything from highly tuned imports to the ultra luxurious Rolls Royce. Luke’s video of the Tokyo Auto Salon 2012 does an amazing job of capturing the car culture in Japan, it’s simply people enjoying what they love.

World’s most expensive car crash in Japan

What a mess! A 20 car group of super car owners were traveling on a Hiroshima when one driver lost control of his car and smashed into a guard rail. The casualties: 8 Ferrari’s’ (355′s 430′s, 360 and a 512), 3 Mercedes Benz’s, a Lamborghini Diablo, a Nissan Skyline and a Toyota Prius. The police officers on the scene do not believe that the drivers were stunting but instead think the wet roads were a reason in the crash. Looks like there will be 8 more Ferrari tables.

Devastating earthquake hits Japan

First off I want to get this out of the way, a lot of companies have been creating promotions where they will donate a percentage of profits towards aid efforts (even if it is 100% they want their name to get around), this really rubs me the wrong way. I urge everyone who can help, donate your money on the Red Cross website instead of buying a shirt from me. I’m serious. As everyone has heard a very large earthquake hit Japan on March 11, it’s hard to imagine the scale of disaster – towns are flooded, coastal lines are battered and supplies are heavily strained. The Boston Post has updated its Big Picture section with pictures of the earthquake. View them here. If you can, please donate!

0-60 magazine visits RAUH-Welt Begriff in Japan

Heard of RAUH Welt? You may not recognize their name but you’ll instantly recognize their insane cars. RAUH Welt is a small tuning house in Japan that specializes in Porsches. Well known for their one of a kind, artistically crafted wide bodied Porsches. Their famous shop car, a flat black Porsche 911 (930) with gold decals, has been featured in many magazines and on a variety of websites. 0-60 magazine had a chance to visit the little shop and take some great pictures.

Shuto Expressway

Japanese Nostaligic Car made an awesome post about the Shuto Expressway in Japan last week. For those not familiar about the Shuto Expressway, it is a group of various routes to help ease the traffic congestion. Many of these routes are multi leveled and often snake in and out of landscape. The most famous section, the Bayshore route is well known simply as “Wangan” and was heavily popularized by both the manga “Wagan Midnight” and the game “Tokyo Extreme Racer” (one of my favorite games on the Dreamcast by the way). Follow the link for more great pictures here.
