I cannot properly express in words how ridiculously happy it makes me to start up my clapped out MR2 to the sounds of the Yamanote line. This is genuinely one of the best things I've ever bought for my own emotional self-care. I even toggle through the sounds while sat at red lights. The wife now wants one so she can have the Family Mart/Don Quijote jingle in her MX5. Genuinely one of the best purchases of my life, worth the international shipping/import fees

I will amend this review when someone amends the situation. First impressions: cheaply made. Within about 5 minutes of unboxing I was having problems with the volume function in that it would only turn down. With the volume stuck on zero I could not test the product. Then, it decided to start working and I turned the volume up. The speaker is very ‘tinny’ sounding at higher volumes which is pretty disappointing considering the cost of this thing. I heard a loud rattle in the box so I shook it gently and a screw fell to the bottom of the melody box. Last thing and arguably the worst thing: the screen detached itself at one side and is just floating inside the housing. Broken within minutes of use. They need some quality control on these before they’re shipped out.

I received my Resha Melody box about 2 weeks ago. The delivery from the US to the UK was pretty quick and the packaging and instructions weren't just good but actually really good looking, a great u boxing experience. The set up was very easy and the cables included are super high quality. Baring in mind the box and cable will probably never move, this will last you forever I'd think. The speak sounds great at low volumes, but I'll be honest I love how quickly it become distorted at mid to high volumes because it sounds like a train tanoy :)

All in all really great product, funny, cute, adds a little interior flare, u boxing is great, packaging was safe and secure and shipping was quick. Website was very clear and I never felt worried.

Overall sold af clean sound only thing is after a month of use its statics after the voice goes through and stays on for awhile. 80 bucks for something like this should be perfect but overall it’s very good for what it is.

Got this for my GR86 and it has been such a cool little addition to the interior. The custom greetings are cool too. My girlfriend is a bit jealous of it but I’d highly recommend this if you want to add some life to your car.

Response: it is important to use the correct cable, connecting the included cable to a usb port that can read data will force the box to not play

Very obsessed with my melody box. It ties my car together, and gives it a nice japanese feel to it. My only concern is sometimes it plays the chimes twice other times only once. Not entirely sure why but otherwise a fantastic product!

Im pretty dissapointed with the product i received, it chooses when to work sometimes itll turn on sometimes it wont .... The magnet power plug is terrible and it falls off quite easily not the same as advertised in the videos (which is android plug). Happy to speak to someone to ammend the problem with a refund or a replacement.

This little device has brought joy to me and other people who ride with me. It has a great build quality and it’s very easy to operate. It does distort at high volumes but I found that having it a little bit past half volume it’s more than enough. Overall I would easily recommend this to anyone trying to spice up their car

After owning it for a month, I figured I should share some more detailed thoughts on my experience for those who are considering purchasing this.

It's a great product, but with a few minor issues. Sound becomes distorted near max volume, so if you plan to use this at max volume be aware that the otherwise excellent sound quality takes a hit. Max volume will most likely not be necessary for the majority of users but it's worth mentioning.

There are no included mounting options. Given the price, a strip of 3M double-sided tape at the very least would be appreciated.

Charging an additional $15USD to add your own track is excessive. For $90USD plus shipping, you'd be better off assembling your own device and loading your own sounds (which can be done for half the price with some rudimentary knowledge of wiring). With that being said, the included jingles and voices sound great, and offering custom sound and voice recordings is a nice touch.

The build quality is good overall but the buttons are mushy. For changing tracks, this isn't an issue, but for changing volume a tactile click would be useful.

Despite these criticisms, I really do like this device and would buy it again. There's nothing quite like it on the market, so if you would like to add a bit of flair to your vehicle, I highly recommend it.

It looks and feels like really good quality in the hand, the quality of the audio is super good and works perfectly. Its such a little thing that makes a big difference! Sadly the box it comes in was really damaged, probably due to the terrible quality of our national postal service. Needs more bubble wrap.

If you're going to buy this thing, order 2 right off the bat for reverse and greeting, easiest way to wire it is to get a cheapo lighter extension and tap it to 12v and ground, same for reverse, just tap rear light 12v and whatever ground.

Only complaint was that the box doesn't really have any way to mount it to a car, you have to use either double-sided tape or pry the box open and drill holes.
There's a slight crackling of the speaker at max volume, but the thing is LOUD even in my padded bimmer, can hear it clearly even outside the car with the windows down from the footwell

Thought the price was steep initially, but I bought one anyway because I am impulsive when it comes to my car shit. I would've paid $200 for this thing because it always puts a smile on my face and the people who ride with me. I wired a port for it into my glove box so it sounds really nice coming from the dash. I can also adjust the speaker loudness perfectly. I would definitely recommend the purchase if you are on the fence, you won't regret it (unless you need the money for food lol).

Really adds character to the car, and I can’t wait to show my friends this. Lots of different sound effects to choose from and you can even change the volume level. Installation was super easy and fits right in the center console. Couldn’t be happier with it, although a little pricey considering how small it is. Still worth it imo.

The Ressha Melody Box is great, especially whenever looking for an ETC reader alternative. Being a Yokohama native, familiar with the many the train jingles there are, I was super stoked to find out various Yamanote line jingles were on the box. Finding this out, I impulse bought the Ressha Melody Box. I do not regret it one bit, and the nostalgia that ensues makes the Ressha Melody Box priceless for me.

Delivery was very fast, sounds Great! Only thing i noticed was that the shell(gap) of the music box was misaligned with the micro usb port(inside the box) a bit challenging to push in(half way was covered via shell), also the cigarette usb port was dead(easily replaced). Small enough to be hidden in my s2000.

Better than expected. It doesn't matter how loud or quiet your car is, this melody box has the right volume setting for you. It's easy to use, and it can be as loud or as quiet as you want. And you'll never get bored of it with all the chimes you can choose. It gives me a smile every time I start my car.

Everything as advertised, great sound quality and volume, easy quick installation and a TON of tracks to choose from, from phrases to little chimes. Have mine set to “Powered by Toyota.” Definitely will be accommodating this little powerhouse in all my future cars.

The melody box is quite small making placement simple, but the sound is very crisp and clear. You can adjust the volume settings to your liking if you need to. The sound quality on this device is amazing, I was expecting a lower quality build for what it is but the sound that comes out, beautiful high quality MP3. Packaging is also quality, demonstrates attention to detail and passion put into this product. Everything from greeting you, your car make, to even the sounds of the train, all brings tears to my eyes (there is high variety for the sound that you want). The product was shipped pretty quickly too, which I appreciate. I also regret not doing a custom sound one. I also appreciate the person message that David Nguyen gave me on the card sent with the package.

Legit biscuits! Fun novelty item that adds that extra JDM influence in your build. Sounds a little distorted at full volume but very crisp and audible. Can’t seem to find a way to wire reverse functions though.

I love melody box and the tracks and how i can adjust volume It's so cool. Every time somebody gets in my car they complimented. It's worth every penny.

It's a fun novelty item. Really brings up good memories of being in Japan. I was a little disappointed in the quality of the boxes construction for the price I payed. It does not feel sturdy. But it's fun

I ordered it, and within a bit more than 2 weeks I received it, it sounds great and plenty of phrases to choose, and the fact that you only need to plug in to a usb just makes everything much more easier!

One of the coolest additions/ cool factors I’ve added to my car. Gives it that Jdm factor and gets lots of thumbs up. Comes with plenty pre loaded greetings to choose from. Makes starting my car more enjoyable. Definitely recommend!

This is such a cool novelty item. I am a big fan of cars and Japanese culture so this was a must ! The sound is quite loud (I was afraid it might have been to low but it works great!) I also agree with some reviewers that I wish there was an indicator or better way to tell what sound you were on but other than that awesome purchase !

I have been enjoying the various greeting chimes you can set up before your drive. Easy installation, no issues where the sound cuts off. The sound volume is quite loud if you want turn it up. Very nice novelty item, to add a bit more character to your ride.

It makes getting in my car and driving all the more enjoyable! Definitely worth the money and with the numerous tracks built into it, I may never get bored of it!

I honestly love my melody box! I think its definitely worth it for the novelty and the character it brings to my build. Instillation was simple and I was able to hide the box and wires but still hear the audio clearly. My one gripe is the difficulty of rotating between audio tracks as I have to pause and listen to each track in order to find the audio I'm looking for. Despite the small difficulty of choosing sound tracks, I love the box for its functionality and how it makes me smile when I start my car.

a really cool addition. it's a novelty item, but it'll put a smile on your face every time you start your car. Mine does work as expected and plays the welcome message conveniently before my stereo kicks in. It's hard to put a price on something like that, but it does seem a little costly for what it does. I guess it largely depends on the build quality and how long it lasts which remains to be seen.

Hopefully, Ver 2 resolves the 'restart' issue, and maybe us early adopters could get an upgrade at a discount when that comes around.

Apart from it being super distorted when loud, having to reset it here and there, and the charger port’s small box cut out which didn’t sit the USB cable in flush, the box itself is exactly what you want and expect. Great little piece that gives you a smile every time you start the car.

Pretty cool! Use it as a reverse chime. Wide range of music to choose from. Volume can be adjusted pretty high. Easiest to use for inside your car. Need to be creative for outside mounting.

Cons: Really not “weather proof” nor made to be used outside of car for backup chime. I’ll see how long it lasts. Required a lot of effort to install. No mounting points, had to use heavy duty 3m tape. Only power source was usb, bought a 5v micro usb converter to a 2 wire 12v to tap into reverse light.

Had it for about 1 month now. Intermittently stopped working for a few hours once. But back to normal now. I don’t know why.

Overall I like it. Sorta novelty item that normal people “don’t get” but hey it grabs their attention and they stop walking in parking lots with their heads buried in their phones! Instead they are confused by the Japanese lady talking. A little bit safer for pedestrians who don’t pay attention and possibly someone that I can’t see.
